The Natural Way To Your Color Hair
If you don't like using hair dyes because all of the chemicals or whatever it may be, then you can try lightening your hair at little to no cost. This lightener really works and you will see results in 30 minutes! The best thing about this is that you don't have to use salon hair bleach your hair to achieve a lighter color. It's very simple and can be done at home.
What To Do:
Step 1: Depending on how much hair you plan on lightening, measure how much peroxide you will need to pour into your bowl.
Step 2: Add baking soda, making sure the mixture is not too liquefied.
Step 3: Mix the contents together, you may need to add more baking soda if it still appears too liquefied, you want the mixture to be pasty.
Step 4: Apply the mixture onto the desired amount of hair you want to lighten.
Step 5: If lightening all of your hair, use a plastic cap. If lightening only a few pieces, use aluminum foil and wrap the pieces individually.
Step 6: Leave it on for 30 minutes, if you want it lighter than that then leave it on for an hour. DO NOT exceed an hour.
Step 7: Wash your hair with lots of conditioner and pat dry. You may want your hair to air dry or you can blow dry it to see the results. :]
I did highlights for my 11 yr. old sister and she loved it!

I am soooo gonna come back to this :)
Great hub , informative interesting and something new
And if I try this at home I hope it works
Though my hair is natural;ly rather dark...maybe it won't have a good effect?!
Vote up
If your hair is black or dark brown, it will turn out to be brown the first try. Then when its brown, it will be light brown the second try and so on. I recommend you do a strand test before you try this to see if you like the result. Hope this helps! :)
Awesome hub! I have always heard this was possible but had never seen instructions. I have dark red hair so I won't be the one trying this, but I am passing this info along to a friend!
Yeah red hair may come out to be an orange color, but make sure your friend does a strand test first. Thank you! xo
#Fenn: You're very welcome :)
can i use baking poweder instead?
Baking powder is different than baking soda.
Is there a certain ratio of peroxide to baking soda to start?
I haven't necessarily measured them, I just gradually add baking soda and peroxide until it turns to a paste
Does this work on lip hair?
It will work :)
Just let sit for15 mine first, rinse it off and see what It looks like, then re apply if needed for another 15 mine and so on
Do we HAVE to use peroxide?
I only have baking soda and I can't goto the store.
Any way that I can just use baking soda alone?
I have no idea, I just know peroxide & backing soda work together. If you want to lighten your hair gradually, you can use honey on your hair, or squeeze lemon juice as a mist.
Do you recomend doing this on wet or dry hair?
Towel dry hair would be best.
How much of each should I mix?
I usually just eyeball it, adding peroxide and baking powder little by little, while mixing these two together until I get a paste.
Can I us baking powder instead
No, I would go with baking soda. Although baking powder does have a small amount of baking soda in it, I would use baking soda instead. Baking powder is more for baking.
Do you apply to wet or dry hair?
Towel dried hair would be ideal. You don't want the hair too dry nor too wet.
Okay just to let everyone know this makes your hair A LOT lighter. I just tried it and my hair was light brown and know it's golden blond.( But it's adorable =))
Am I suppose to wash my hair before I start this process?
Yes, I would wash it first. :]
Can you re- apply right after the first appy or should i wait?
Wait, because your hair will be very dry. If you do it right after. Wait 2 to 3 days.
Omg It Worked ,
:D I'm happy for you!
Will it work on black hair?
Girl, find a small piece of hair and try it before you do all of it.
Are you talking about the peroxide you can just get from the grocery store? Or do you mean hair salon peroxide?
Thanks!
I use peroxide from the grocery store that has 3% hydrogen peroxide. I didn't know hair salons had their own.
does it damage itt?
Yes, its damaging depends how many times you lighten it.
This totally works... The more you do it the more blonde it gets... I had light brown hair and the first time i did it it turned it kind of orange but only after 3 times of doing it I have blonde hair! THIS IS AMAZING!!! Thank you so much!
What i did was i took a half full bottle of conditioner and added the peroxcide and baking soda mixture to it and i towel dried my hair and added the lightening conditioner to my hair, wrapped it up in a plastic bag and let it deep condition. When i rinsed my hair after 15mini this dark purpleish color was coming out of my hair from when i died it dark brown a month ago! It worked and i will gradually do this conditioning treatment to my hair once a week until its a light golden brown i hope for. Plus when i tan i made a solution of lemon juice and water to spray in my hair to add natural highlights!
would it work if u did rubbing alcohal and baking soda?
Do not use rubbing alcohol..
That sounds like a really good idea! Thanks for sharing :]
Well you're very welcome! :]
Is hydrogen peroxide and oxygenated water the same?
To be honest, I have no idea. I would recommend you use peroxide or do your research and compare.
